Our History
A venue rooted in a story of its own
It has always been said that a tree will not grow in comfort or in light — it is the shade itself that challenges the tree to grow to greater heights.

The Founders
The second venue of the Inimitable Group
In 2021, John and Zavion Kotze-Brereton, founders of Zavion Kotze Events Company and Inimitable Wedding Venue, embarked on their most exciting journey yet. Their vision came to life in 2023 with the opening of STAY, a wedding estate nestled within the Cradle of Mankind: a place that not only marks the origins of humanity, but provides an unforgettable backdrop for life’s most cherished celebrations.
With a continued dedication to excellence in hospitality, it made sense for the group to grow its offering.
Whilst offering a completely different look and style to Inimitable, the venue that came before it, STAY is committed to the same service and hospitality excellence that the group company has become known for.
The Mulberry Tree
The Mulberry Tree and creeper on the north-western side of STAY’s ceremony area are planted in Catherina’s memory.
Originally rooted at Inimitable, the Mulberry Tree was transported here by the founders to continue its legacy of growth, and to spread the roots of love and lifelong dedication that are the foundation of the Inimitable Group. We continue the tradition of this land — marriage, love, growth and gathering.
The Land
From 1847 to today
Christoffel Snyman and Catherina Sophia arrive in Muldersdrift — the first couple to be married in what is now the Wedding Mile of Johannesburg.
Christoffel is attributed as the first European to set eyes on Mosi-oa-Tunya, the Victoria Falls, two years before David Livingstone. He returns with two gifts for his wife: a Mulberry Tree and a creeper from Zimbabwe.
The portion of land on which STAY now stands is farmed for the community. Gatherings are common here, close to the original Drift Crossing that carried the first gold from the reef just a few properties over.
With over thirteen years in the wedding industry behind them, the founders of Inimitable begin the journey towards a second venue — a wedding and accommodation venue like no other in Johannesburg.
STAY by Inimitable starts construction, and the dream design starts to unfold.
After two years of construction and rehabilitation, STAY hosts its very first wedding.
The Location
An easy commute between city and country living
STAY sits within 29km of Sandton City and only 22km from Fourways, and 14km from Lanseria International Airport — never more than a quick drive away for guests from across South Africa and abroad.
